Training Classes
Course Goal:
Upon completion of this course the participants would function in the role of the safety officer that is required for a hazardous materials incident under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, NFPA 472, and NFPA 1582 under the AHJ. During
this course students will learn the duties of the safety officers and respective roles and responsibilities, the importance of monitoring operations at the hazardous materials/WMD event, the need to provide information
to the incident commander, and the appropriate actions to be taken in order to provide for the safety of the responders and the public.
Course Summary:
Through the use of scenarios participants will fulfill the role of the safety officer at various scenes and make appropriate safety decisions, through the creation of an Incident Action Plan and a Site Safety/Control Plan.
Course Objective:
This 16 hour Hazmat Safety Officer course is designed to provide the student with skills, knowledge and abilities to effectively evaluate a hazardous materials incident for respective safety issues and ensure that recognized
safe operational practices are followed through the use of scenario activities. The student is placed within the context of incidents to create and evaluate the IAP and Site Safety Plan. As a prerequisite, students in this
course are expected to have completed OSHA requirements for the Operations and/or Hazmat Technician Level and the National Incident Management System Courses ICS 100 and ICS 200. This class exceeds NFPA 472, 2013, Chapter
11 Competencies.
